IELTS Cue Card Sample Answer: Describe an occasion when you helped one of your family members

There Have been many a time when my family has come together in supporting each other in the hour of need, I have been a knight in shining armor rescuing my mother in the kitchen when my father would invite his friends to our house without keeping us informed. He was quite absent-minded and it would slip from his mind quickly about his actions. This would land my mother in an embarrassing situation. She would go helter-skelter in deciding what to cook in a short time. I remember very vividly that in one situation, my father had invited his colleagues to our house for a party and as usual, we were unaware of the same. My mother was walking aimlessly in the kitchen unable to decide as to what to cook for 7 people in a very short time with hardly any special ingredients to cook something special. I, seeing her looking worried, just walked in the kitchen and told her to stay cool as a cucumber and I offered to help her. I searched the kitchen found some ingredients to make a starter, main course, and dessert. I told her I would showcase my culinary skills. I donned the hat of a chef and with my mother’s help and guidance, we prepared a decent meal and our guests lauded us and enjoyed the dinner. This was an incident that taught me management skills and I did feel on cloud 9 when I got a pat on my back from my mother for making the evening a big success.

Part 3 (Discussion)

– How can children help their parents?
– Do you think children should be rewarded for helping?
– How can the government help citizens?
– How can citizens help their community?
– Do you think countries should help one another?
