Sample Answer: Describe a journey where you got lost. You should say:
One journey where I got lost was during a backpacking trip to Kyoto, Japan, a couple of years ago. It happened in the early spring, during the cherry blossom season, which made the experience all the more memorable. I got lost while exploring the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, a popular tourist attraction in Kyoto. The bamboo forest is quite extensive and mesmerizing, and I wandered deep into it, snapping pictures of the towering bamboo stalks. As I got more engrossed in the scenery, I lost track of the main path and the signs directing visitors back to the entrance. At first, I didn't feel too worried about getting lost because the bamboo forest was enchanting, and I thought I could easily retrace my steps. However, as time passed, and I couldn't find any familiar landmarks, a sense of mild anxiety began to creep in. I realized I had lost my way and didn't have a clear sense of how to get back to the entrance. To find my way out, I decided to use a basic navigational strategy. I followed the sound of a small stream that was running through the forest, hoping it would lead me to the edge of the bamboo grove. Fortunately, after about 20 minutes of walking in what felt like circles, I stumbled upon a group of other lost tourists. Together, we managed to find the main path and eventually made our way out of the bamboo grove. I felt relieved and a bit embarrassed about getting lost, but it turned out to be an unexpected adventure. In the end, I was grateful for the experience because it allowed me to see parts of the bamboo forest that most tourists might miss. It also taught me the importance of paying closer attention to signs and landmarks while exploring new places, especially when you're in a foreign country.

When I was 12 years old, I went on a camping trip with my family to the Rocky Mountains. We were hiking in a new area that we didn't know very well. I was following my dad, but I got distracted by a butterfly and wandered off the trail. When I realized I was lost, I panicked. I didn't know where I was or how to get back to my family. I started to retrace my steps, but I couldn't find the trail. I wandered around for a while, but I only got more lost. I started to feel scared and alone. I didn't know what to do. Finally, I sat down on a rock and started to cry. I didn't know what else to do. I was scared and I didn't know how to get back to my family. After a while, I heard someone calling my name. It was my dad! He had been looking for me. I was so relieved to see him. I ran to him and gave him a big hug. I learned a valuable lesson that day: always stay on the trail when you're hiking in a new area. I also learned that it's okay to ask for help when you're lost. Here are some tips for staying safe if you ever get lost:
·
Stay
calm. It's important to stay calm so that you can think clearly.
·
Retrace
your steps. If you can, try to retrace your steps to get back to where you
started.
·
Look
for landmarks. If you can see any landmarks, try to use them to orient
yourself.
· Ask for help. If you're lost, don't be afraid to ask for help from a stranger. Most people are happy to help someone who is lost.
